Visa

Tourist visa is granted for all nationalities, on arrival to Maldives. This means, no prior visa is required to arrive to Maldives.

A thirty day free visa is issued on arrival for all Nationalities, provided:

  • Should posses a valid passport with and should have at least 6 months validity.
  • Have a valid ticket to continue the journey out of Maldives.
  • Have enough funds to cover the expenses for duration of the stay in Maldives. (US$100 + $50 dollars per day) or a confirmation of reservation in a Tourist Resort or a Hotel.

Caution: Full thirty day visa is not a right of the passenger to claim, but lies at the discretion of the Immigration to issue not more than thirty days and any period less than thirty days.

Employment is prohibited on a tourist visa. Therefore, any tourist found working will be deported from Maldives.

Health and safety

What vaccinations do I need to obtain before travelling to the Maldives?
All visitors to the Maldives are required to possess a valid international certificate of vaccination against yellow fever if they are from, have stayed in, or have traveled through infected areas.

What are the other medication should I take to the Maldives?
It is advised share your disabilities conditions with your travel agent when making your booking and bring along any devices you could depend on. Take with you a good supply of all medications you are dependent on, with a valid prescription in case Customs requests for clarifications or if you need to refill. We strongly recommend that you consult your personal physician who will be in the best position to advice you on your travel health.

In case of emergency will there be a doctor in the resort?
Most tourist resorts have a house doctor and or first aid centers.

What are the other health precautions that I should take?
Be careful where you eat and drink outside the resort, registered food and beverage outlets in the country are usually safe.
Be caution when diving, snorkeling and swimming. Follow correct procedure, use proper equipment and follow any directives given by instructors.

General

Do I need travel Insurance?
To avoid or minimize the risk that can occur during your holiday, it is best to obtain travel insurance. It is a small price to pay for undesired outcomes and for a peace of mind.

What is the weather like?
In the Maldives there are two monsoons, North - East monsoon (Iruwai in Divehi) and South – West monsoon (Hulhangu in Divehi). North - East monsoon is drier of the two, which lasts from November to May. South West monsoon considered more windy and rainy season which lasts from May to October.

What kind of clothing should I wear in the Maldives?
Light coloured cotton garments are the best option. When visiting to inhabited islands and Male’, it is advised to dress up modestly and respectfully, Maldives is 100% Muslim country, and when entering to a mosque women should cover their head with a shawl or head scarf.

Are there any places where women are not allowed to go?
There are no restrictions on gender.

Can I get Internet Access?
Most resorts / hotels offer Internet Wi-Fi facilities,.

What opportunities are there for photography?
There are so many opportunities for photography, sunsets and sun rise, spectacular vistas or of the amazing underwater.

Can I take photos at all the attractions I will be visiting?
You can take photos of most of the attractions. Your guide will advise you if you are not able to take photos at certain locations. It is always best to clarify this with your guide.

Can I bring wines and spirits into Maldives?
It is illegal to take any form of alcohol into the country
