Thiladhunmathi streaches SSW for 76km and contains fourty islands, Kelaa – which is one of the largest island forms prominent point in the NE of the atoll. It has few islands on the western boundary and there are more isolated reefs (faru).

This irregular atoll is surrounded by many barrier reefs, thought the atoll is quite large it contains only 10 islands, the western tip of the atoll is divided and enclosed with islands, and the eastern cap (Fottheyo Muli) is the most eastern geographical point of the Maldives. Both the caps and the Futtaru on the western tip of the atoll are the most dangerous navigating point in the Maldives, for southern atolls, many ships & boats have been capsized and or lost in these reefs. The general depth of the lagoon is 70m (40fathoms) and the distance between both points is 57km.
